The Health Director serves as the local registrar for all birth, deaths, and fetal deaths, occurring in Nash County as well as Burial Transit Permits, Disinterment/Reinterment Permits, and Affidavit of Parentage for Child Born out of Wedlock . The Deputy Registrar receives and processes these certificates as necessary. It is the responsibility of the Deputy Registrar to respect the privacy of involved individuals and protect their legal rights.
The Deputy Registrar serves a local contact for citizens to obtain general information concerning guidelines and/or state laws as it pertains to issues with birth and death certificates. Local hospitals and funeral homes use the Deputy Registrar as a contact to obtain information concerning related procedures.
Funeral directors, or designees, are responsible for filing a Death Certificate after an individual’s death, while a medical facility is responsible for filing a Certificate of Live Birth for each live birth. These certificates must be filed with the Deputy Registrar within five days. Upon processing these legal documents, the Deputy Registrar files a copy with the Nash County Register of Deeds and submits the original certificate to the State Vital Records Office.
All Vital Records correspondence should be directed to the Nashville Branch of the Nash County Health Department.
